  • Education includes the “whole child” (physical, emotional, academic, intellectual, accountability, and self reliance).
  • Child development is marked by “periods of sensitivity”.
  • The teacher facilitates learning.
  • Learning materials are concrete, imaginative, tactile, sensorial, and adaptable for each individual child.
  • Experimentation and independent thinking is encouraged.
  • Education should provide for self-discipline, self direction, and daily individual guidance from the teacher.
  • Respect each child’s individuality.
  • Encourage freedom with structure.

A good Montessori classroom will provide an environment where the teacher does not dominate and the physical/psychological arrangement of the classroom will encourage freedom and independence.  Children learn to value their abilities, as well as the abilities of others.  You will observe happy, productive children.
